Posted on January 14, 2019January 15, 2019 By Director No Comments on Civil Rights and Martin Luther King, Jr. at Your Library

On January 21, the library will be closed as we observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  This is a day for the nation to think about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a minister, civil rights activist and nonviolent leader. Dr. King is recognized as one of the most prominent leaders in the Civil Rights movement, which endeavored to end racial discrimination against African Americans including segregation. Dr. King played an important part in creating the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Dr. King was assassinated in 1968 at the age of 39. His nonviolent leadership in the Civil Rights movement continues to be remembered as one of the most influential and effective in world history. Please take the time to learn more about this American hero’s life and times in observance of the holiday.
